Not only is Tuesday the opening day of fair but also it’s a day dedicated to kids — from the Kiddie Parade to the penny hunt, there’s also three-legged and sack races as well as the tricycle pull for kids ages 3-5 years.

Sam Vogel, superintendent of the Kiddie Parade said the judging for the Kiddie Parade will take place between 5-5:30 p.m. and 300-400 children participate. Plus, he said, the middle school band and the fair queen candidates take part as well.

Vogel reminded parents that there are no gas-powered, motorized vehicles or horses allowed in the Kiddie Parade but battery-operated toys are OK.

“Parents, please walk with your little kids for their safety,” Vogel said, adding that the younger ones get tired before the end of the parade.

He said the Kiwanians, who sponsor the parade, are expecting great weather again this year and that the parade has only been rained out once when there was also thunder and lightning.

The entries are judged by Chelsea High School Key Club members and places are given for first through fourth place.

“It’s a fun things for kids,” he said of the Kiddie Parade and suggested that participants arrive by 5 p.m. as the parade will step off precisely at 5:30 p.m.

Once the youth get to the fairgrounds, they are invited to head to the main arena for more kids’ day events.

Children 10 years and under get into the fair for free. It’s $7 for a daily pass or $25 for a season pass. On Thursday, it’s senior day and those 65 and older get into the fair for free. On Friday, it’s Ladies Day and ladies get into the fair before noon for $5.

Students and senior citizen’s (65 and older) season passes are $15, but students must show their school ID.

Parking is free.

Rides are an additional cost.
