Although the 76th Annual Chelsea Community Fair doesn’t officially get underway until Tuesday, Aug. 20, there are two free events on Sunday and Monday that are not to be missed.

On Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. until well into the evening, is a dead-weight tractor pull in the Main Arena, then on Monday, Aug. 19, the antique tractors will take to the arena from 10 a.m. until about 6 p.m.

So, what’s the difference?

The dead weight pull is measured in inches. The antique tractors must be 1940 models or older and the pulls are based on percentages.

Superintendent Dennis Trinkle also says the Kiwanis Club food truck will be open for business both days.

“Young and old will participate,” Trinkle says.

Admission to the fairgrounds and to these events is free on both days.

This year, tractor pull participants will also find a new scale house near the area — just of of the improvements the Fair Board has added to the grounds this year.

Brian Trinkle and Dennis Trinkle are the superintendents for the pulling contests.
