Cub Scout Pack 455 presides over ‘City of Independence’ (with slide show)

About 25 cub scouts from Pack 455 chose the name City of Independence for their fictitious city and learned the laws of their new city at a special meeting that took place in the Chelsea City Council chambers last week.

Scouts from Chelsea Cub Scout Pack 455 met at an unusual location — the Chelsea City Council chambers — last Wednesday.

The scouts were asked what name they’d like to give their fictitious town and “City of Independence” was chosen. Two mayors and two sets of council members were “elected” through a random draw and all of the scouts learned about the laws of the land seated in spots usually occupied by the Chelsea mayor and city council.

The pack was led by Cub Master Scott Peterson who reminded the first-fifth graders that they always need to follow the rules and obey their parents, their teachers and the scout law.

“A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”
