Culver’s Restaurant Planning Chelsea Location

By Lisa Carolin

There will soon be a Culver’s restaurant opening in Chelsea.

A combined preliminary and final site plan for the 4,891 square foot restaurant building located at 1610 S. Main Street was approved by the Chelsea Planning Commission at its May 18 meeting via Zoom. The motion was contingent on all items in the City, Midwestern Consulting, and Chelsea Area Fire Authority staff reports being satisfied.

In other action, a request for a 1-year extension on the Heritage Pointe Phase IIB Final Site Plan was also approved by the Chelsea Planning Commission.

Julia Upfal, Chelsea Community development director, told planning commission members that although this housing project has been on hold since it was initially approved on June 27, 2006, there is now a developer who has the site under contract and is actively pursuing completion of Phase IIB.

In addition, the planning commission approved a motion to schedule a public hearing to review the proposed Heritage Pointe PUD (Planned Urban Development) Area Plan Amendment at the June 15, 2021 planning commission meeting.

The request is to change the lot coverage on the original PUD from 20 to 35 percent, which would allow Heritage Pointe to offer a variety of housing types.

There are currently two openings on the Chelsea Planning Commission. Go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions to learn more.
