Trinh Pifer, executive director of Chelsea Senior Center, made an impressive presentation highlighting the expanding membership and programs enjoyed by the Senior Center at last week’s Kiwanis Club meeting.

She noted that there are 819 dues paying members ranging in age from 50, (the minimum age) to over 100.

She told the group that Washtenaw County has the largest percentage of seniors of any Michigan county, and Chelsea has the largest percentage of seniors in the county.

The club was pleased to support her efforts to engage the older population, particularly with the program C2S2, which provides small handyman repairs to help seniors stay in their homes longer.

Last Saturday, club members joined with several members from Chelsea High School’s Key Club in the University of Michigan Circle K Club’s Day of Service. The Circle K students did service projects all over the area from 8 a.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.

They had great weather for the Chelsea project, raking leaves at the homes of area seniors. Key Club and Circle K are part of the Kiwanis family of service clubs, as is St. Louis Center’s Aktion Club.

The Kiwanis Club 40th Annual Fruit Sale continues. Take advantage of this opportunity to have fresh citrus fruit delivered to you directly from Florida. It’s a healthy treat, bursting with flavor that lasts for most of our Michigan winter in your refrigerator.

Your purchase supports the service projects Kiwanis conducts in Chelsea. Oranges, tangelos and grapefruit are $30/case and $20/half case, and can be ordered through any Kiwanian, or by calling Chelsea State Bank, (475-1355), Palmer Auto Service, (475-1301), or Heydlauff’s, (475-1221).
