Dec. 7: Ian Woljicak-Andrew to speak at Kiwanis Club; citrus fruit arriving this week

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

This Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear from Ian Woljicak-Andrew, past Lt. Governor of Michigan Kiwanis Division 10, which consists of almost all of the clubs in Washtenaw County.

He will speak on a planned fundraising project for next spring to help achieve Kiwanis’ 5-year goal to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus around the world.

So far, $103 million of the $110 million has been raised or pledged since the campaign was announced in 2010. Working with UNICEF, by giving a woman three injections for a cost of $1.80, this will give immunity to her future children. The project will be a journey on bicycles from Indianapolis through Detroit, to Toronto.

Detroit was where Kiwanis began 100 years ago. Indianapolis is the current international headquarters, and was the site for the 100th convention. Toronto is the site for the 101st convention, and represents Kiwanis becoming an international organization with a club forming in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1916.

This week, we will expect our fruit will be delivered from Florida. We ordered extra over what was pre-sold, because as we deliver to our customers, co-workers and friends who may have missed our sale in November can and will be able to enjoy this healthful, delicious treat.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis and click here for more information about Kiwanis.
