The Dexter Township Board will make and/or confirm appointments to various township boards, commissions and committees at its Dec. 17 regular board meeting at 7 p.m. at the Township Hall, 6880 Dexter-Pinckney Road.

Residents interested in applying for any of the expiring or open appointments should send a letter of interest and resume via regular mail to Pat Kelly, Township Supervisor, 6880 Dexter-Pinckney Road, Dexter, MI 48130, by email to [email protected], , or by fax to Kelly at 426-3833 no later than Nov. 22.

Resumes and letters received after Nov.  22 at 4:30 p.m., will be kept on file for future consideration.

Planning Commission (PC) Available positions include two full-time appointments for 3-year terms ending 12-31-2016. Candidates for the available appointments must be qualified electors of Dexter Township. Criterion for PC membership also includes representation of all interests in the township including agriculture, business, residential, lakes residential, recreation, etc.

The Planning Commission is responsible for making and adopting a basic plan to be used as a guide for the development of the township and for the evaluation and approval or denial of site plans for development in the township.

The Planning Commission generally meets two times per month on Tuesday evenings.

Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) Available positions include one full-time appointment and one alternate appointment, for 3-year terms ending 12-31-2016.

Zoning Board of Appeals members hear and decide a variety of questions that arise in the administration of the zoning ordinance, including interpretation of the zoning text and maps, appeals of zoning decisions and variance requests. All members of the Zoning Board of Appeals must be qualified electors of Dexter Township; criterion also includes representation of all interests in the township. Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are held once per month on Tuesday evenings.

Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) Nine full-time appointments may be made for 2-year terms ending 12-31-2015. The purpose of the PSAC is to provide an assessment of the overall structure, service levels and funding requirements for the provision of fire, police and emergency medical services to Dexter Township and to provide recommendations to the Dexter Township Board to support and promote the delivery of high quality, cost effective public safety services.

To the extent possible members will be representative of the major population centers and geographic areas within the township. In addition, it is preferable that at least two members have professional experience in fire protection services and police services provided, however, that their current employer does not provide service to Dexter Township. The PSAC meets approximately once per month.

Portage Base Lakes Water and Sewer Authority Board (PBLWSA) The Township Board will appoint two representatives and two alternate representatives for four-year terms ending 12-31-2017. Applications from any township elector may be considered, but it is preferable that appointees reside in the Portage-Base Lakes sewer service area.

In addition to fiduciary responsibility for the Portage-Base sewer system, appointees to this board decide variance requests from users of the system; provide oversight of sewer authority operations and present status reports to the township board. Members of this board regularly meet every other month.

Residents are encouraged to call Supervisor Pat Kelly at 734-426-3838 with questions or for additional information.
