At its July 8 meeting, the Chelsea City Council approved members for the planning commission and board of review, presented a proclamation to an Eagle Scout, approved several items for the city’s electric department, approved a resolution for a charitable gaming license, and heard about all the progress the Chelsea District Library has made on its 2017-2019 strategic plan.

Richard Dice was appointed to a 3-year term on the Board of Review expiring January 2022, while Peter Shaw and Michael Townley, both of whom serve on the Chelsea Planning Commission, were approved for 3-year terms ending June 30, 2022.

Mayor Melissa Johnson presented Eagle Scout Anthony Pearse with a proclamation and thanked him for all the work he did securing funding and organizing the improvement of the Chelsea High School Athletic Department’s team celebration area. Pearse spent more than 70 hours working on cleanup, adding a water collection system, installing shelving, building wood benches and a wood shelter for the CHS team celebration area.

City Council approved three requests by the city’s electric department: The purchase of a regulator at a cost of $17,000.00, the purchase of a wire cart at a cost of $21,963.00, and leasing a pickup truck in the amount of $36,940.55 for a four year term with annual advance payments of $10,259.76 per year.

In other action, City council approved a resolution for a Charitable Gaming License for the Chelsea Area Historical Society to sell 50/50 raffle tickets at its Flanders Fest vintage motorcycle event at the Train Depot Aug. 4.
