(Chelsea Update would like to thank Kathie Gourlay, Chelsea/Dexter CROP Hunger Walk coordinator, for the information in this story.)

Faith in Action won the Golden Sneaker for the 2013 Chelsea/Dexter CROP Hunger Walk as their team had the greatest increase in funds raised from the previous year.

Kathie Gourlay, walk coordinator, presented the Golden Sneaker to Nancy Paul, Director of Faith in Action.

In addition, Silver Maples also had a very big increase due to their team leader Paul Becker, so he was given a certificate of appreciation.

Last year’s walk brought in $20,161 with about 100 people from 11 organizations walking, and many times that number contributing. The money raised will go to help hungry and poor people all over the world, with 25 percent going to Faith in Action to help local people in need.

Planning for this year’s walk begins with an organizational meeting on April 9 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 14600 East Old US-12.

Potential new walkers who are not part of an organization who walked last year, should contact Paul at Faith in Action to learn more.
