There is no age limit for volunteers at Faith in Action, the Chelsea-based nonprofit organization that offers financial assistance and resources to alleviate the effects of hunger and poverty in the community.
Chelsea resident Ruth Jennings has spent more than 12 years volunteering at FIA, and recently celebrated her 95th birthday with no plans to stop volunteering there.
When asked what keeps her coming back every week, Jennings responded, “I enjoy the companionship and leadership at FIA. It’s fun.”
She added that volunteering at FIA motivates her to stay involved with helping others. She is particularly fond of taking clients through the food pantry.
Suzanne Murray frequently volunteers with Jennings.
“I find Ruth to be an inspiration,” said Murray. “She’s always looking on the bright side and greets me with a smile. We then comment on various challenges we face then take on the tasks at hand.”
