From Carnegie Hall on June 24 to the Chelsea Retirement Center chapel on June 27 — that’s where the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) Korean Children’s Choir has performed recently.

The chapel was filled with residents from both the CRC and the community, and it was an uplifting experience based on the audience’s enthusiastic reaction.

The FEBC is a group of Christian radio stations. The choir has 500 members, 40 of whom performed at the CRC. They visit venues across the U.S as a way of thanking America for their freedom.

How did the renown choir come to play at the CRC?

“Happenstance,” according to Stacey Olson, director of public relations for the United Methodist Retirement Communities.

“This choir was in the area for something else, and we had a connection with someone who offered to make it happen. The outcome is so positive,” she said.

The FEBC Korean Children’s Choir is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The group that entertained at the CRC is from Daejeon, South Korea, and they are one of 11 children’s choirs who sang at Carnegie Hall June 24.

They performed songs in both Korean and English that ranged from Korean traditional pieces to folk music to spiritual and religious songs. Members of the choir were dressed in colorful, traditional hanboks and performed with drums, bells, and fans. They created a beautiful, harmonious sound and everything they did was meticulously choreographed.
