Chelsea Retirement Community is presenting its first film festival beginning Saturday, Feb. 22 for four consecutive Saturdays.
The first film of the day will begin at 10 a.m. and there will be a second film at 2 p.m. with a guided discussion to follow each film.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch or purchase a meal from the Fireside Grille and dine with your fellow viewers in Dancey House 1.
Saturday, Feb. 22: 10 a.m. Miss Representation: “An inside look at the media and its message about young women. The film accumulates startling facts and statistics that leave audiences shaken, armed with a new perspective, and asking the question, ‘What can we do?’” Not rated. 88 minutes.
Saturday, Feb. 22, 2 p.m: PBS American Experience: The Stonewall Uprising (documentary)—“explores the dramatic event that launched a worldwide rights movement. When police raided a Mafia-run gay bar in Greenwich Village, the Stonewall Inn, gay men and women did something they had not done before: they fought back. Violent protests and street demonstrations released the collective anger and announced that the gay rights movement had arrived.” Not rated. 90 minutes.

Saturday, Feb. 29, 10 a.m: The Imitation Game—“The movie follows a genius who under nail-biting pressure helped to shorten the war (WWII) and, in turn, save millions of lives. He was later accused and convicted of the offense of ‘homosexuality.’” Nominated for “Best Picture.” Winner of “best-writing.” Rated PG-13. 114 minutes.
Saturday, Feb. 29, 2 p.m: Moonlight—“A moving, transcendent, award-winning look at three defining chapters in the life of Chiron, a young man growing up in Miami. His epic journey to adulthood, as a shy outsider dealing with difficult circumstances, is guided by support, empathy and love from the most unexpected places.” Winner of “Best Picture.” Rated R. 110 minutes.

Saturday, March 7, 10 a.m: Pride—“It’s the summer of 1984 and much of Britain is on strike. A group of London-based activists support a village of Welsh miners’ families, and they learn that standing together makes for the strongest union of all.” Rated R. 120 minutes.
Saturday, March 7, 2 p.m: Milk—“The true story of Harvey Milk whose life changed history as the first openly gay man to be elected to major public office.” Rated R. 129 minutes.
