The City of Chelsea will celebrate chocolate, and Valentine’s Day, with its annual Chocolate Extravaganza on Saturday, Feb. 7 with all of the usual delights, such as chocolate treats throughout Chelsea.

This year will also feature exciting new delights, including a demonstration of chocolate sculpting.

“February can be a tough time for everyone,” says Garden Mill owner Jennifer Fairfield.  “Cabin fever is starting to set in and people are anxious to get out of the house and have some fun.”

She says, “Chocolate Extravaganza is a terrific way to shake off the late winter blahs, enjoy some delicious chocolate, and explore Chelsea.”

The Garden Mill will feature Janet Brown and her custom chocolates, with a children’s free “make-and-take” activity.  While the kids make their special item, you’ll have time to take advantage of discounts on great gift items for your Valentine.

The extravaganza is much more than just free chocolates. There are a number of participating businesses that will have treats on hand along with activities like live music at Global Marketplace and The Potting Shed on Main, and a chocolate “Scavenger Hunt” with a prize drawing at the end of the day at Merkel’s Furniture and Carpet One.

Elizabeth Wilson of Veo Art Studio will be doing tours of a working art studio and showing a video demonstration of chocolate sculpting by Amy Belz of Mindo Chocolate Makers.

A new business in town, La Maison, will feature Michigan-made Cherry Republic products at a discounted price, and for the cowboys – a free leather cuff with purchase at Mule Skinner Boots.

As in the past, stores, cafés and restaurants invite you to shop, eat, and “experience” chocolate.

Participating businesses throughout Chelsea will offer sales on chocolate-themed merchandise, raffles, and of course, chocolate samples, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Brochures with a map and event listings will be available on the day of the event at participating businesses.
