Kelly Sears, an independent filmmaker, will screen her work at River Gallery on Saturday, Oct. 6th from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

An accomplished filmmaker, Sears has shown more than once at the Sundance Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, and American Film Institute’s festival in LA, according to information about the event.

“She’s is an art film celebrity on the rise,” the information states.

Readers can learn more about Sears at the Artist in Residence website.

River Gallery is at 120 South Main St.

“This is a great opportunity to get a feel for her work and understand the attention it has gotten from the film industry at these major festivals,” according to the information.

Then, there will be a collaborative workshop, “Cut-ups and Found Sound, Stop-Motion Basics with Special Guest Kelly Sears” from 1-4 p.m. at the gallery.

The workshop includes collaborating with Sears to create a complete short film, using found objects and photos. “It’s a chance to work hands-on with a filmmaker in her own style and medium and experience film from a new perspective,” according to the information.

Space for the workshop is limited to 12 people, to please call or e-mail Deb at 734-433-0826 or [email protected] to register in advance.

Here is a feature on Kelly and her experience at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and a trailer for her film “Once it started it could not end otherwise,” which is a disaster/suspense film she created incorporating still images from 1970s yearbooks.
