The Chelsea freshman football team recently defeated Tecumseh at Tecumseh, 13-6.

The game was a defensive struggle throughout and the Chelsea defense came up with more plays that helped to win the game. Drew Anstead, Andrew Klink, Cole Septer, Chris Roush, and Trevor McTaggart all played excellent defensive games.

Chelsea was led on the ground by Cam Cooper, who had 90 yards and a touchdown. Travis Frazier threw for 100 yards in the game, while Preston Ewald had a 4-yard touchdown run.

“Because Dexter did not have a freshman team, we had to schedule back-to-back games against Tecumseh,” said freshman coach Dennis Strzyzewski.

“Since we had just played, it was a little tough to get everyone motivated to go at it again,” he said, adding, “I think the teams being so familiar with one another made it much tougher for the offenses to create big plays. I was really proud of the way our offensive line played in the second half.  We needed to run the ball with nine men in the box, and they did a good job of creating space for the backs.”

Chelsea will try to finish the season with an 8-1 record at home against Haslett on Thursday, Nov. 24.
