(Chelsea Update would like to thank Mary Jane Eder for the information in this story.)

It is with great pleasure that the Board of the Friends of Chelsea and Lyndon Township announces, “The Mine has been Denied!”

McCoig Materials has officially withdrawn their application for a special land use permit for a gravel mine in Lyndon Township.

You may recall that there is also a potential land swap in the offing, which, when consummated, could result in the exchange of the land in Lyndon Township to the State of Michigan (DNR) in exchange for the right to mine gravel on DNR property near Brighton at the Island Lake State Recreation Area.

Negotiations are still underway in Lansing on that matter.

Thank you to all of the great citizens of the Chelsea and Lyndon Township areas for your refusal to accept what we were told was a done deal.

If you or your friends still have “Deny The Mine” lawn signs in yards, now would be a good time to take them down.

Mary Jane and Tim Eder
