(Chelsea Update would like to thank Dennis Strzyzewski for the information in this story. THis story has been corrected to reflect that Quinn Starkey played in this game. )
The Chelsea Freshmen football team beat Ypsilanti by a score of 34-18 Thursday night.
Aaron McDaniels ran for 120 yards and two scores. Quinn Starkey threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns. All of the scoring throws went to Hunter Neff who had seven catches for 120 yards.
Holdon Monica, Jack Conlin, and Nick Brough really stood out up front creating holes and protecting the quarterback against a very fast and aggressive Ypsilanti defense.
Griffin Bell led the defense with 10 tackles. Nick Scritchfield, Cooper Mattson, and Jake Spruce each had 7 tackles for the Bulldogs. Austin Lyles also came up with an interception and three pass break-ups.
“We certainly weren’t perfect today, but for the most part the kids played hard for all four quarters,” said coach Dennis Strzyzewski, who added, “ Ypsilanti plays a very aggressive, blitzing defense so we had to adjust the way we did things a bit, and the kids managed to make the plays we needed to move the ball. Defensively, we missed too many tackles, but everyone that played kept at it and made some really important stops.”
“This was certainly the best win of the season for this group. We have two games left,” the coach said. “Hopefully, we can finish strong and the kids can feel good going into next season.”
