Board Member Greg McKenzie was chosen to be the Lima Township representative on the fire chief selection board at the township board meeting on July 11.
McKenzie will serve on the Chelsea Area Fire Administration’s interview panel to hire a new fire chief. Current Fire Chief Jim Payeur is retiring in November.
In other business, the township has a new drain tile ordinance in effect. It’s Drain Tile Systems Ordinance #32, and it was supported unanimously by the Township Board.
“The bottom line design is to enable the township to have a map and access to records of drain tiles that serve not just one person’s property but several people’s property,” explained Township Supervisor Craig Maier. “Our goal is to identify issues if and when they occur.”
The township wants residents to voluntarily submit information if they know where their drain tiles are located. The board will determine a fee schedule and address form at a later date.
The board voted to table a vote on web site bids until they receive additional bids and information. The county will soon stop supporting the email accounts and web sites of individual townships.
Maier added, “I’m absolutely fed up with the system we currently have. It has locked me out of my email for the last three weeks.”
Township Clerk Elaine Bater reported that the township survived the yearly audit with glowing reviews.
During the public comment, Chelsea District Library Executive Director Lori Coryell introduced herself and said that a wifi hot spot will be going on the Lima Township Hall in the next week or two. It can be used when someone is within 300 feet of the building.
Also during the public comment, Julie Stevens introduced herself as a Republican candidate for Washtenaw County Commissioner District One.
Board Member Don Laier was absent from the meeting.
