Holiday hygiene drive: help teens in need

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Virginia Krueger for the information in this story.)

Get into the holiday spirit of generosity with the Chelsea District Library (CDL) Holiday Teen Hygiene Drive.

The library, in partnership with Faith in Action (FIA) and the Ozone House of Ann Arbor, is collecting hygiene items to help homeless teens and children.

The drive will take place during December and donations can be dropped at the library’s main lobby during normal business hours.

According to the Ozone House of Ann Arbor, there are currently an estimated 1,300 youths experiencing homelessness or housing instability in Washtenaw County. Assisting with their basic needs, such as giving kids a place to take a shower, get a hot meal, or find safety for the night are all ways that the Ozone House helps homeless youth.

Faith in Action is the largest emergency service provider in western Washtenaw County and provides food, clothing, employment services, advocacy, and more for the Chelsea and Dexter school districts.

The library is proud to partner with these great organizations to help with the pressing needs of youth in our area.

While all general hygiene items are welcome, some of the more needed items are shampoo and conditioner (full size), body wash, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and socks.

All donations should be unopened and items will be distributed between FIA and the Ozone House. Food and shelter insecurity increase for families in need during the holidays.

Please help make basic hygiene needs one less thing for families to worry about.
