Three young speakers from SRSLY gave very articulate descriptions of their activities at their conference in Washington DC during the last Chelsea Kiwanis Club meeting.

They explained that SRSLY is a national leader in drug prevention coalitions.  And, one of the speakers will be a trainer at future conferences.

Bob Milbrodt celebrated the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis last week in Indianapolis with members of all the Kiwanis family represented.  Kiwanis (adults), Circle K (college), Key Club (high school), Builders Club (middle school), K Kids (elementary school), and Aktion Club (adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities).

This year, Michigan Kiwanian Sue Petrisin will become the first woman ever to lead one of the four major service organizations. Kiwanis has over 600,000 members in 81 countries.

The club’s speaker on Monday will be “Honest Jon” Van Hoek from the Chelsea Monitors Vintage Base Ball Club who will explain the history of base ball as well as how the Chelsea club began and has since prospered.  He will also talk about plans for the all-day Ironclad Vintage Base Ball Festival at Chelsea High School on July 18.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
