Make a donation to a local organization this holiday season of a different sort—for the Food Pantry Face Off.
The Face Off is the idea of Horning’s Farm Shop, which is located in Freedom Township. The farm is hosting a ground beef donation program, and two of the organizations the farm is partnering with are located in the Chelsea area—Faith in Action and the St. Louis Center.
“People can support their favorite organization by giving $5, then we will donate 1 lb. of ground beef to the organization,” said Katelyn Packard. “The friendly competition is that when the Food Pantry Face Off closes at the end of the year, Horning’s Farm Shop will do a one-to-one donation match for the organization with the highest ground beef donations.”
Horning Farms has hosted a ground beef donation program for several years as a way for the farm as well as its customers to give back to the community. The farm was founded in 1877 and has been in the family for nearly 150 years.
“We have three generations that work together each day managing the farm; something we are very proud of,” said Packard. “Located in Manchester, we milk about 400 cows and also raise beef cattle. We have an on-farm retail shop where we sell cheese, butter, ice cream, and our homegrown beef.”
