Jan. 27: Friends of Chelsea District Library Annual Meeting

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Lisa Climer for the information in this story.)

January means it’s time for the annual meeting of the Friends of the Chelsea District Library. This year we are pleased to hold our in-person meeting on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 10 am to noon in the McKune Room of the library in Chelsea. There will be yummy breakfast.

The Friends had an excellent 2023. The highlights are:

  • Our membership increased from 94 to 100;
  • The board continued to meet regularly in person;
  • The monthly Used Book Sales raised over $10,000;
  • The FoDL was able to pay $20,000 to help fulfill the Chelsea District Library’s wish list, including Purple Rose Theater Readings, Authors in Chelsea, and Music in the Air.

The Chelsea District Library continues the outstanding programs and events that offer so much to Chelsea and the outlying community, but these offerings are costly. Since one of the Friends of CDL’s roles is financial support of these, we are always looking for ways to increase our support through: donations, memberships, and special fundraisers such as jewelry sales and annual ornament sales. In 2024 please consider renewing your membership, and help support the library with donations, volunteering and support of fund-raising and book sales.

We need the Chelsea community’s ongoing support and involvement. All are welcome to our board meetings on the second Tuesday every month at 5 pm. There are two open positions on the board: President Elect and Secretary. Nominations and self-nominations are accepted from the floor.

We hope to see you at the Friends of Chelsea District Library Annual Meeting on Jan. 27 as we plan to continue our support of The Chelsea District Library and plans for the future.
