July 15: Thriving Minds Presents ‘Equipping Couples Transitioning to Parenthood’

On Saturday, July 15, from 9 -10:30 a.m. at Robin Hills Farm in the Pasture Barn will be a program called “Equipping Couples Transitioning to Parenthood” taught by Marla Field, a licensed therapist with Thriving Minds Family Services.

In this 2-part class series, Field will teach new parents (or parents-to-be) practical and research-driven strategies for transitioning into parenthood while nurturing a strong, healthy partnership.

Each session will consist of a lecture, group discussion, and workshop time for couples. Infants up to 1 year of age are welcome to come along.

Session 1 will introduce the basics of the Gottman method, a set of strategies for building strong families popularized in Bringing Baby Home. After a brief overview of the research supporting this method, couples will learn and then practice these strategies for addressing both baby’s and parents’ needs.

Session 2 will explore these concepts in greater depth.  Tickets are 1 per couple.

Field is a licensed therapist with Thriving Minds Family Services in Chelsea and Renewed Hope Counseling Center in South Lyon, and counsels both adult individuals and couples.

Working with couples is her passion; she has completed Level 3 of the Gottman Couples Method, and is a Gottman Trained Educator for Bringing Baby Home, a program that helps couples transition to parenthood.
