July 21: chip seal projects planned for Sylvan, Lima townships

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will begin a preventative maintenance chip seal project on the following roads in Sylvan and Lima townships:

· Kalmbach Road between I-94 and Cavanaugh Lake Road

· Old US-12 between the county line and Kenwood Drive in Sylvan Township

· Old US-12 between Freer Road and Jackson Road in Lima Township

The roads will not be closed to traffic, but delays are likely due to lane restrictions. WCRC encourages motorists, emergency services and others to use an alternate route.

The road improvements are expected to take approximately three days. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions.

Once the roads are back open, drivers are advised to lower their speeds to 35 m.p.h. while the stone settles. WCRC will return to this area in a few weeks to apply a fog seal on top of the chip seal and place permanent pavement markings.

  1. Such a shame they can’t build roads to a higher standard that would make this ungodly mess of a vehicle damaging process necessary.

  2. I don’t understand why the need to do Kalmbach road. It was freshly paved with asphalt last year!
