For the 44th year, the Chelsea American Legion Post 31 will host is annual July 4 chicken broil beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until the 500 chicken dinners are sold out.

Included in a take-out or eat in dinner are a half chicken, baked beans, Cole slaw, a bag of chips and a roll and butter for $10.

Beverages are an additional cost.

The proceeds from this fundraiser are used to assist veterans and in the Chelsea community.

“We’ve probably put a roof over the heads of about 15 veterans and their families,” said John Beeman, chairman of the event that’s organized by Squadron 31 of the Sons of the American Legion.

He said that through the Veteran’s Administration, the Legion has helped veterans pay their rent. “It’s a pick-me-up not a hand out that’s paid directly to the apartment complex.”

The Legion is at 1700 Ridge Road in Sylvan Township.
