SRSLY Cinema opens Thursday, June 11 with “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.” Highlights of the 2015 summer line up include “Prince Bride,” “The Sandlot,” “The Maze Runner,” the brand new animated film, “Home,” and more.

SRSLY Cinema attracts more than 200 youth and adults to every show, and this fun, family-friendly, substance-free event is considered one of the most popular initiatives of the SRSLY coalition.

This summer marks the seventh year of SRSLY Cinema, made possible entirely by broad and generous community support. Local businesses, clubs, and families sponsor SRSLY Cinema with donations of $150 – $1,000. These donations cover the cost of equipment and licensing fees associated with the outdoor movies.

SRSLY Cinema is currently seeking sponsorships for this year’s event. Businesses, clubs, families and neighborhoods can sponsor a movie for $150, $300, or $600. Sponsor logos are displayed on screen during previews before the movies every week. All sponsors are listed on the coalition’s website here. Interested sponsors can contact Jesse Kauffman, SRSLY Program Coordinator at 734-593-5283.

Other great sponsorship opportunities include:

SRSLY T-shirt Giveaway Night – The first 50 people at the movie will receive a free SRSLY t-shirt. The sponsor will be recognized in promotional materials and in the weeks leading up to the event in the weekly preview reel.

Weekly Social Media Package in which SRSLY will Tweet and post via Facebook including promotion of the sponsor’s business or neighborhood for the weekdays prior to our event. SRSLY has ten Weekly Social Media slots available for $150 each.

SRSLY Cinema also needs plenty of adult volunteers throughout the summer, to make sure everyone has fun in a safe way. Adults who are willing to chaperone at SRSLY Cinema should also call Jesse.

“Over the past few years, we have had a great mix of businesses, families, civic clubs, and neighborhoods sponsor our event, and we are so grateful for their support,” said Jesse.

“One of our members organized her neighbors, and each family donated $10-20 so they could sponsor a movie as a group. What a fun, creative way to support outdoor movies here in Chelsea.”

In addition to sponsors and volunteers, SRSLY Cinema receives in-kind support from area businesses and organizations in the form of donated services. Chelsea High School students create public service announcements that are shown as previews before each movie. Edgar Norman Creative started the cinema event back in 2009, donating significant time to securing sponsorships, coordinating tasks, and creating the preview reel shown before each movie.

SRSLY Cinema takes place Thursday nights, June 11 through Aug. 13. To see this summer’s full movie schedule, click here. Movies start at dusk on the lawn behind the clock tower in downtown Chelsea, following Sounds and Sights on Thursday nights.

Movie titles are selected by youth members of SRSLY. Youth run a popcorn and refreshments stand as a fundraiser, and moviegoers are asked to donate $1 to support the project.
