Geek Brush Studio, a community art space offering approachable painting instruction and creative programming for all ages, is celebrating its new downtown home with a Grand Re-Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, with a ribbon cutting shortly after 5:00 p.m. continuing with a reception through 8:00 p.m.
Everyone is invited to enjoy refreshments, explore the studio and gallery, and experience firsthand the creative energy and community connection at the heart of this growing arts space.
Founded by Certified Bob Ross instructor Brenda Fineman, Geek Brush Studio offers step-by-step painting classes, including its signature Bob Ross wet-on-wet oil painting workshops, as well as private lessons and events, monthly Teen Art Night events, preschool sessions (Messy Masterpieces), and drop-in Make-N-Take painting. The studio also features a curated and growing selection of art supplies and creative gifts, a new addition made possible by the expanded retail footprint in the new space.
Previously located in its cozy underground studio at 105½ S. Main Street beneath Gary’s Barber Shop, Geek Brush Studio has now relocated to 108 E. Middle Street, a bright, accessible storefront that offers increased classroom capacity, expanded gallery space for local artists, and room for community art engagement. Visitors are invited to contribute to the interactive Community Art Wall or add a brushstroke to the evolving Community Painting, both designed to spark creativity in artists of all ages and experience levels.
The new location carries a deep creative history of its own. From the mid-1980s until 2003, 108 E. Middle Street was home to the Loft Gallery, an influential art space that helped anchor Chelsea’s early downtown arts scene. More recently, the storefront housed Serendipity Books, the beloved independent bookstore that made national headlines this year when more than 300 community members formed a human chain to pass over 9,000 books down the street to Serendipity’s new home on Main Street, an effort now affectionately known as the “Book Brigade.”
During the June 24 celebration, guests can enjoy cake provided by the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce, along with other light bites and beverages. Artwork by Fineman will be on display alongside featured pieces by pop artist Chris Dragan and pastel artist Sue Craig.
In addition to its Bob Ross–style workshops, offered in both 2-hour evening sessions and 3-hour daytime classes, the studio has introduced several new programs. Teen Art Night is a monthly creative meetup for teens ages 13 to 18, offering a space to experiment with new techniques and connect with peers. Messy Masterpieces is a hands-on session for preschoolers and their caregivers, designed to let little ones explore creativity through play and paint. The studio also now offers Brush Club memberships, with tiered options that provide access to classes, discounts on supplies, and exclusive member perks.
