Today, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will conclude its 3-day participation in the Sounds and Sights Festival at the food court on West Middle Street. All are welcome to stop by to enjoy our signature Knackwurst (with or without sauerkraut)!

Last Monday, speaker Steven McCarty talked about his initial interest in Kiwanis.  After attending Key Leader, a Kiwanis leadership development weekend camp while in high school in Monroe, he became so interested in the possibilities presented to him, that he started a Key Club at his high school.

He was the charter president of his club, and continued to lead.  While a sophomore at the University of Michigan, he increased the number of Circle K clubs at Michigan colleges from 11 to 15 while serving as Governor of the Michigan District of Circle K. Now serving as Vice President of Circle K International, some of his duties include travelling to campus clubs far and wide.

On Monday, Aug. 1, the club will review its operations at the Festival and fine-tune food concessions in preparation for the club’s largest fundraiser, the Chelsea Community Fair. Club members will begin serving food on Sunday, Aug. 21.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
