Last Sunday, Key Club officers presented a $1,000 donation to St. Louis Center. Members of the club spent this year collecting returnable cans and bottles from generous community families. Proceeds comprised their support for St. Louis Center’s mission.

Last Monday, Western Washtenaw Area Value Express Community Relations Coordinator Shasta Grifka was a guest at our Kiwanis meeting. She had visited many times in the past as a Girl Scout leader, but spoke to us this time about transportation.

In her short time with WWAVE, Shasta has been speaking to groups and individuals in the community about the services that WWAVE offers. She reports that most folks are unaware that rides are available for anyone here in town and across the county for low rates, and many times free. Buses run seven days a week until 7 or 8 p.m. Operating funds mostly come from the Michigan Department of Transportation and grants.

She would like to extend WWAVE’s service area outside the county to Grass Lake, if the need can be demonstrated. Of course, service improvements depend on staffing, and drivers are hard to find. Shasta asks folks to visit ridethewavebus.org anytime to learn more, or call (734) 475-9494 M-F 8am-4:30 pm to schedule a ride.
