Labor Day fun walk planned by Healthy Communities Walking Program

The Healthy Communities Walking Program invites area residents, family, friends, and out-of town visitors to participate in the upcoming Labor Day Fun Walk endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports.

Scheduled for Monday, Sept. 3, at the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center, at 17030 Bush Road, this free walking event begins at 9 a.m. with registration, refreshments, walking information and kids’ activities. There are two walks planned, one that’s a 5.3-mile hike or one that’s a 1.5-mile option. Both walks begin at 10 a.m.

Participation in area walking events like this can be a great way to get active with your kids, your family and friends, according to the press release. Over time, regular exercise such as walking, can give you stronger bones, better balance, increased energy, increased stamina, increased strength, weight loss, and reduced stress, the information states.

An annual vehicle recreation passport is required for recreation area entry, which can be purchased upon arrival for $10 at the Discovery Center desk.

The Healthy Communities Walking Program is a free 12-month walking support and incentive program serving Chelsea, Dexter, Manchester, Grass Lake and Stockbridge.

For more information, contact Sheri Montoye and the Healthy Communities Walking Program at [email protected] or (734) 593-6271 or click here. The group is also on Facebook.
