Letter to the Editor: It was an honor to serve you

It was an immense honor representing local residents.

With my state House tenure concluding at the end of the year, I’d like to take this time to thank everyone for giving me the immense honor of representing them at the Michigan Capitol.

Voting on key issues on the state House floor is certainly a big part of the job, but more importantly to me was the ongoing role of helping local residents with their issues and concerns. I will forever cherish my interactions with the people of the 52nd House District, and how gratifying it was to be able to help them in some small way to improve their lives.

I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many great people here in Washtenaw County over the last two years. I may have stopped by your door, or talked with you a local senior center or event, but I appreciated each and every one of our discussions because it ultimately helped me represent you better.

One of the mottos I’ve always lived by is this: Try to make a positive difference in whatever you do and leave your community, neighborhood or workplace a better place than before you got there. I’ve worked very hard these past two years to live by that motto, and I can tell you unequivocally that the state of Michigan will be a better place because of the tough reforms that were made.

At the beginning of the new year, you’ll have a different person representing your needs in Lansing. I wish state Rep.-elect Gretchen Driskell the very best as she begins her new role, and am here to help her in any way during this transition.

Again, thank you for giving me your trust these past two years. It’s been a tremendous honor to serve you. The office’s permanent phone number is (517) 373-0828, so please continue to call if you need assistance with state government issues.

Please have a safe and happy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Mark Ouimet
