The Lima Township Board held its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 9, following the board’s annual meeting with the Washtenaw County Road Commission.

On the agenda was a motion to keep the closed Liberty Road Bridge, west of Dancer Road, eligible for state and federal funds for its repair. The board voted unanimously to issue a letter to the Road Commission, stating that the township is interested in repairing this bridge.

Each year, the Road Commission can place five bridges on a list that’s sent to the state for possible funding. From there, according to Lima Township Supervisor Craig Maier, “It’s strictly a roll of the dice, if you will, to see if we get that funding or not.”

Trinh Pifer, executive director of the Chelsea Senior Center, gave a short presentation to the board. She said that 10 percent of the Senior Center membership resides in Lima Township. The Chelsea Senior Center had 783 active members in 2014, but Pifer stressed that there are homebound seniors, who are unable to get to the center.

Pifer said that 142 homebound seniors in the Chelsea School District and in Manchester, received meal delivery through the center’s Meals On Wheels program, which amounted to more than 24,000 meals being served in 2014.

In other news, Maier reported that bids have been received for the interior renovation of the Chelsea Area Fire Authority Lima Township Substation, and that work should begin soon.

The annual Heart and Sole run will take place on May 9, which is also the date for the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority’s (WWRA) Spring Clean-up Day.

Bill Coury announced that the next Lima Township Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. at the Lima Township Hall.
