Welcome to Vintage Village.

Matthew Millar, owner of Renovatio Woodworks, who makes wooden home goods, is looking for a few local artisans to join him in the former Rockefellers building on Jackson Road and become a part of Vintage Village, a retail outlet for artisans.

For the last year, he’s been creating his handcrafted furniture and other wood items in a workshop at the back of the property on 12290 Jackson Road and now he’s rented the home on the front of the property and is inviting other local artisans to join him in one of two ways.

Local, handmade items will be displayed inside the brick retail shop on consignment for a fee of $40 per month plus 40 percent of the item price, or, there is room space available for $250 or $240 per month where artisans can create their handmade items and sell them on the spot.

Millar says there are two rooms available and it would be a month-to-month rental, plus a security deposit of $250 plus the rental fee.

The retail location has a shared bathroom.

Each renter will have one-third of the road side sign in the Lima Township location, which is highly visible just after the highway entrance to I-94 on Jackson Road. The sign is made with a retro-looking border, mid-century modern style, Millar says. Each renter or consignor will be responsible for their own lettering, which will be designated as matching font style to the existing font, he says.

He says the location has a high volume of traffic traveling past it, and with the additional signage he’s added to the sides of the building that read Handcrafted Artisan Goods, more and more folks are stopping in to check it out.

The sign on road side reads Vintage Village on top border, and he’s hoping that the spot will bcome a destination for folks looking for local, unique, made-made items.

“I hope to find local artisans who want to sell locally — paintings, pottery, metal sculptures and/or hand-made jewelry for either consignment or rental space,” he says.

To look at the rental options or to discuss consignment items, please call Millar at  734-545-0505.

Millar already has items for sale in the retail space from consignors (as well as his own beautiful creations) and the shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

He invited everyone to stop by and see what’s already there with additional items coming soon.

In addition, late this summer or early fall, Millar plans to offer a class in wood furniture repair and folks can bring in one item – that must be small enough to carry into the shop and Millar will work with the owner’s to teach them how to fix it up. Stay tuned for more details.
