The Lyndon Township Planning Commission gave unanimous approval at its June 2 meeting for a Special Land Use Application by Ronny Hamama to construct a car wash at 20941 North Territorial Road at the North Lake Retail Center.

The meeting opened with a public hearing on the matter, followed by discussion by the commission and its approval.

Among the conditions the commission is requiring are landscaping on the west side subject to approval by Ordinance Officer Merritt Honbaum, approval by the Multi Lake Water and Sewer Authority, information defining what happens if there is a car wash filtration malfunction, hours of exterior construction limited to 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and that once the new store is operating, the owner has 90 days to tear down the old store.

Hamama, owner of the North Lake store, told the Planning Commission, “The car wash will be a coin wash not a tunnel wash with a 100-percent recycling system. The new building will be 6,450 square feet with a main store and a couple of retail units. I think this will be a great fit for the corner and for the community.”

Neighbors of the North Lake store expressed concerns at the public hearing about noise from the car wash, which was a reason for the required landscaping.

Hours of operation for both the store and the car wash will be 5 a.m.-11 p.m.

It will now be up to the Lyndon Township Board to approve the site plan for the project.
