A 20-year-old male was airlifted to U-M Hospital Monday evening following a one-car accident at the corner of Old US-12 and M-52.

Chelsea firefighters got the call at 6:18 p.m. said Fire Capt. Chris Smyth and when they arrived they found a pick-up truck upside down resting on a utility pole.

Smith said emergency workers had to raise the vehicle up to free the driver’s leg because a second utility pole slid up into the truck and pinned the driver’s leg.

“It took about 40 minutes to extricate him and get him on the survival flight,” he said, adding that the driver never lost consciousness.

The cause of the accident is unknown and under investigation he said.

  1. Saw this after leaving China Garden last night. No idea how he managed to flip his truck like that in the 3 minutes after I left CVS, drove across Old 12 to China Garden and returned with my take out order.
