March 21: Chelsea Kiwanis to hear from Dave Killips about school millages

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last week, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard from Peace Corps volunteers Dan Marthey and Dasha Dokshima, who gave a fascinating report on their 27-month stays in Malawi, a snake shaped country in southern Africa.

Learning the language and culture of the people they worked alongside, both found a vast difference in living conditions compared to America. Contending with unusual food, hard manual labor, scorpions, spiders, and disease-carrying mosquitoes was part of their learning experience. The Peace Corps offers an amazing adventure for those who wish to serve.

Monday, club members will hear from Chelsea Schools Superintendent David Killips. He will discuss the upcoming elections in May and the School District related choices on the ballot for voters.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Have you marked your calendar for the arrival of the Easter Bunny at the Chelsea Retirement Community for the Kiwanis Annual Easter Egg Hunt? The event is sponsored by Chelsea High School Key Club and Kiwanis and will be held the day before Easter this year on March 26.

The Easter Bunny will begin the festivities at 9:30 a.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis and click www.kiwanisclubofchelsea.org for more information.
