Marcia White Appointed to Chelsea Planning Commission

Marcia White will return to the Chelsea Planning Commission following a unanimous vote of the Chelsea City Council on Aug. 2.

White has a long history of serving Chelsea. She was appointed as a City Council member, and served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Board of Review and previously on the Planning Commission. The longtime Realtor in the city, also serves as an election official.

She will fill an open position with a term that expires June 30, 2022.

In one of the shortest regular meetings of the year, the elected officials also approved annual street closings for two block party permits – one for residents on West Summit Street and a second for residents of East Summit Street.

The West Summit block party road closure runs from M-52 to Congdon St. on Aug. 22 from 2-9 p.m., with a rain date of Aug. 29.

The East Summit Street road closure is planned on Aug. 15 from noon-4 p.m. from M-52 to East St.

The City Council also approved an agreement between the city and Chelsea Rockwell, LLC for a Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy Brownfield Redevelopment grant as well as a brownfield grant between the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and the City of Chelsea by 3-0 votes.

Council Member Charles Wisely recused himself from both votes as the company he works for stands to profit from this housing redevelopment project.

Two people spoke during public comment and videos of the City Council meetings can be found on the city’s website.

It should be noted that only four of the seven City Council members were in attendance at the meeting with Cheri Albertson, Tony Iannelli and Jane Pacheco absent.
