When the Chelsea City Council meets on April 8, Marcia White will join them as the newest member following a majority vote of the City Council on Monday, March 21.
Five candidates applied and interviewed for the open position left vacant when Jim Myles moved out of the city.
White has a long history of serving Chelsea and Council Member Cheri Albertson said, “It’s important to acknowledge that Marcia comes with a vast amount of knowledge [of the city].”
She was previously appointed to the City Council and currently serves on the Planning Commission, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Tax Board of Review and as an election worker.
“I’d like to thank the Chelsea City Council for selecting me from a strong field of candidates who want to serve their city,” she said.
The final vote came down to two applicants: Tony Ianneli, who ran for City Council in the November election and lost by 9 votes, and White, who did not run because she was a caretaker for a terminally ill family member.
Also applying for the open spot were Susan Moore, Matthew Jordan and Joel Abramson.
“I look forward to working with the City Council to make Chelsea a wonderful place to live, raise children, do business and recreate,” she said.
Voting for White were Albertson, Council Members Peter Feeney and Frank Hammer and Mayor Jason Lindauer.
Voting for Ianneli were Council Members Melissa Johnson and Jane Pacheco.
