May 18: at the Saturday Farmers’ Market this week

Saturday Farmers' Market logoThis Saturday, May 18, there will be a special food-based event to learn how to cook with market greens that includes demonstrations, samples and recipes. Welcome Taste of Health to the Saturday Farmers’ Market, a healthy eating committee of the Grass Lakes Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) promoting life-balancing retreats for area residents.

Remember, the market is open from 8 a.m.- noon on Park Street in the library lot.

And, here are a few vendor offerings this week:

Saturday market, boy scout food drive, buildings 026*Ruhlig’s Produce will have spinach, chives and Potted Herbs.

* Mama Mofoods is introducing a new 3oz. hummus size on selected varieties. Handy for on-the-road snacks and packed lunches. And, the 17 varieties of 8 oz. hummus will be available along with our full line of seitan and exceptional pesto.

* Back by Popular Demand — Johnny Secreto Foods will be joining the Chelsea Farmers Market every third Saturday. Their product line this year includes spice blends, BBQ sauce, Old World pasta sauce and a new product Kamut wheat 100-percent organic spiral pasta. (Publisher’s note: I love this company’s pasta sauce)

* Stone Hearth Breads & Bakery will be offering a special “Tuscan Favo” for the Michigan Wine and Beer Fest this weekend, get this asiago cheese and olive bread while it lasts.
