Although the Chelsea Senior Center will be closed until at least April 6, the Meals on Wheels program is up and running.
That’s thanks to the dedicated team of drivers and kitchen volunteers as well as the support of Chelsea Schools, all of whom are making sure that Meals on Wheels recipients have enough food to get them through every week.
Bill O’Reilly, executive director of the Chelsea Senior Center, explained that Meals on Wheels preparations and deliveries have been switched from five to two days per week.
“I have to commend the team of volunteers who approach all of this with their usual ‘we’ve got this’

attitude,” said O’Reilly. “The school district’s kitchen staff of Tracey Dalton and Denise Wurster have been wonderful as always in preparing all the meals and adjusting to the new challenges. Clearly, the coronavirus situation is causing disruptions in many lives and organizations, including our Chelsea Senior Center.”
Senior Center staff is still in the office and available at 734-475-9242. The center’s website is www.ChelseaSeniors.org.
O’Reilly says that any senior in the greater Chelsea community who needs assistance with meals, groceries, medicines, transportation, or other vital services should call the senior center.
“Many people have contacted us regarding volunteering, and we greatly appreciate that,” said O’Reilly. “The best help you can provide is to reach out to your neighbors, especially your older neighbors, to see if there is any help you can provide to them.”
