Multiple thefts from vehicles reported in Chelsea, throughout county

Chelsea Police logoThere have been at least six cases of people having their cars broken into and having valuables stolen in Chelsea in the last two months.

In some cases, the cars have not been locked, while in others, the passenger side window has been smashed out and laptops, purses, cameras and other items have been stolen.

There have been two cases in parking lots on Coliseum Drive, two cases in parking lots on west Old US-12, one in a parking lot on East Old US-12 and one on Pierce Street. (Please go to the police blotter tab on Chelsea Update to read about these thefts.)

Chelsea Police issued a Nixle warning on Friday morning, reminding people to lock your car doors and not leave anything visible in your car when its parked on the street or in a parking lot.

These thefts are taking place in the evening, according to the alert, and they aren’t just happening in Chelsea, the Sheriff’s Department has issued a number of alerts about similar thefts taking place in Lima and Scio townships as well as in the Village of Dexter.

“The Chelsea Police Department is urging all citizens to keep your vehicles locked and refrain from leaving valuable items such as cell phones, GPS units, tablets, and purses in the vehicle when at all possible,” the alert states.

Multiple larcenies from autos have recently taken place in parking lots throughout the county where windows were smashed and items were taken.

Anyone seeing any suspicious behavior in parking lots is urged to call the Chelsea Police Department immediately with as detailed a description as possible of the suspect and the vehicle.
