The Veterans of Foreign Wars Scholarship hosts a program for middle school students called the Patriots Pen and for high school students called The Voice of Democracy. Through essays and speeches, students have an opportunity to win up to $10,000 in the Patriots Pen competition, and $30,000 scholarships in the Voice of Democracy competition on the national level.

Students compete though their local VFW Post, and winners are moved on to their district level, and then to the state level. State winners go on to compete on the national level.

This year’s Chelsea VFW Post 4076 first place Patriots Pen winner was Natalia McElrath and she went on to win second place in our district.
