Newly elected Lyndon Township Board holds first monthly board meeting, makes appointments

The newly elected Lyndon Township Board met on Tuesday, Dec. 8 for its first regular Township Board meeting as a group and unanimously approved the second amendment to the Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) Articles of Incorporation.

The new board is composed of Supervisor Pam Byrnes, Treasurer Kristen Brekke, Clerk Linda Reilly and trustees Robert Mester and Tim Eder.

Previously, member municipalities of CAFA — the City of Chelsea, Lima and Sylvan townships had approved the changes.

With a change in the board following the November election, elected officials made a number of unanimous appointments to various boards and commissions:

Supervisor Pam Byrnes was chosen as the alternative member to the CAFA board for a term ending Dec. 31, 2022. Tom Demske is the township’s representative on the board.

Byrnes was also approved as the township’s representative to the Sylvan Township Water & Sewer Authority for a term ending Dec. 31, 2021.

Byrnes was also appointed as the township’s representative to the Leoni Regional Utility Authority for a term ending Dec. 31, 2020 and for a 2-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2022.

Marc Keezer was appointed as the alternative to this board for the same terms.

Township Trustee Bob Mester was appointed for a 1-year term as the township’s representative to the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority with a term beginning Jan. 1, 2021-Dec. 31, 2021.

Byrnes and Keezer were appointed to the township’s Broadband Oversight Committee through October, 2021.

Byrnes announced that Gary Munce would be the township’s deputy supervisor and webmaster in addition to his duties on the township’s Broadband Oversight Committee. He would oversee a review of the township’s information technology.

Munce reported that of a total of 894 of the 906 subscribers are now online for broadband services and that there are just 12 residents to go waiting for installation.

Trustee Tim Eder requested that residents contact Senator Lana Theis if they are concerned about Senate Bill 431. The bill would remove virtually all controls local governments have over sand, gravel, and other mining operations within their jurisdictions.

Theis is expected to be a part of the Chelsea Community Forum zoom discussion on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 9 a.m.
