This month, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club is concentrating on its 42nd Annual Fruit Sale. (Publisher’s note: I’ve had this fruit and it is delicious, I highly recommend it.)
Despite the devastating weather Florida experienced recently, our supplier assures us that healthful delicious citrus is still available, delivered fresh on a truck direct from harvest in the Treasure Coast region of Florida.
The club is offering Navel oranges for $40 a case (4/5 bushel), Red grapefruit, and Tangelos for $35 a case. Half cases are $25-oranges, $20-grapefruit and tangelos. The club has been using the same supplier for more than 30 years, and they guarantee satisfaction.

Last Monday, Trinh Pifer, executive director of the Chelsea Senior Center, explained how members of the Senior Center can now electronically check in when using the facilities and indicate in which activities they will be participating. The data generated by this computerized method will inform the center’s staff and allow them to customize and refine programs.
The Senior Center had more than 35,000 visits last year. There are now more than a thousand members, up from 600 when Pifer became director five years ago. The Senior Center wants to connect with the whole community. There were more than 120 preschool children who visited last year and worked in the intergenerational garden side by side with seniors. They then cooked up and tasted what they grew.
High school students also worked the garden. A total of 530 pounds of produce was harvested last year, shared with the community, served at Senior Center lunches and by Meals on Wheels.
The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
