The Chelsea Area Garden Club will be holding a fundraiser at the Nov. 22 Farmer’s Market, 10 am – 3:00 pm, at the Chelsea Depot, 125 Jackson St.

An assortment of pinecone wreaths and trees, grapevine wreaths with greens, birch bark votive holders, and rustic winter porch pots filled with forest greens will be sold to support the CAGC grant and scholarship programs. Suggested donations will be posted. Credit cards, cash, and checks accepted.

The grant form will be posted online by mid-January. Applicants in the CAGC service area of Chelsea and Western Washtenaw County will be given preference. The CAGC encourages non-profits, schools, churches, and businesses to apply for a grant provided their activity serves a community purpose and benefit.

In 2025, the four grant recipients included the Senior Center’s Trinh Piffer Chelsea Intergenerational Garden. This grant supported IGG activities and learning opportunities that involve seniors, and youth ages preschool through 5th grade.

The Chelsea Community Garden received a grant to purchase tarps and fabric to cover 40 plots at the community garden and replace old and worn tools.

The Lyndon Township Hall used their grant to replace invasive plants and shrubs with native shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers at the township hall.

The Pierce Park Pollinator Garden, sponsored by Girl Scout Troop 40693, invested in planting deer resistant annuals and perennials for the gardens. CAGC also supported four Chelsea High School senior student scholarships.

The garden club also provides a yearly book selection at the Chelsea District Library the for children and adult collections. This year’s theme is “Putting the Garden to Rest.” What happens in the garden in the off-season? Book selections include harvest and preservation techniques, indoor garden crafts and activities, and preparation for the season ahead for adults and children along with the annual subscription to Mother Earth News.
