The annual Harvest Art Market will take place on Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Silver Maples of Chelsea.

The best little art market around featuring a “market mix” of great art, including glass, mixed media, pottery, fiber arts, folk art, jewelry, photography… and so much more. Featured artists include Cheryl Green, Susan Falcone, Linda Wurtzel, Michele Friss, Sandra Somers, and Sarah Brunette’s ACME Market.

Featured Artist

Judy Irwin, a Chelsea native and potter, says creating something out of clay on the potter’s wheel is like magic.

“When you are a beginner the clay becomes whatever it wants to be,” she said. “As you become more skilled at throwing, you can create anything you want, the possibilities are endless. Your imagination and creativity is the guide.”

She adds that creating with clay truly feeds her soul. Sometimes she puts off going to my studio, but when she gets there she’s happy and content, throwing clay and listening to NPR.

Her daughter, Jane, who is also an artist, says she would never work in a medium with so much room for failure. And while Irwin agrees, she says, “But when you open the kiln, there’s nothing more thrilling than finding a work of art.”

Irwin is a functional potter, creating things you use in the kitchen, plus vases, planters, and anything she can think of that would be useful, attractive and functional.

She loves meeting so many interesting and friendly people at art fairs “It’s a rewarding feeling to know they are interested in what I create.”
