The opening of Chelsea Area Fire Authority Station 2 on Jackson Road might mean some Lima Township residents get a reduction in their house insurance payment because of a better ISO rating, which assesses risk factors.

So, if your residence wasn’t within 5 miles of a fire station previously, it might be now, and this can mean lower insurance costs.

Lima Township Supervisor Craig Maier is suggesting that residents check with their insurance companies.

“It’s worth a phone call,” he said, of a possible reduction noting that one resident saved $347 by doing so.

He said almost every property in the township is now within 5 miles of a fire station.
