Palmer Lot Event Space Project Revisions Approved by the Chelsea DDA

The Chelsea Downtown Development Authority Board voted unanimously to approve a revised redevelopment plan for the Palmer Lot Event Space on Thursday, July 20, and it’s expected that the project will get underway later this summer.

The long discussed, about $1.08 million community gathering place construction project includes an archway, pathways, a restroom building, plenty of parking, bike racks, space suitable for the two Chelsea Farmers Markets, a rain garden and a stage area.

There will be additional trees and shrubs, benches and fencing and grass areas and a buffer for the neighboring properties.

There are several vacancies on the DDA board if anyone is interested. Please go to the city website for more information.

In other announcements, Monica Monsma, executive director of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce, praised the DDA board for the work and final design of the Palmer Event Space saying it will accommodate a lot of needs in the community.

She urged everyone to nominate Chelsea Community members for the Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Awards.

In addition, she announced a call to artists https://chelseaupdate.com/call-artists-design-chelsea-welcome-signs/ to create a welcome sign for the entrances to the city and that there were plans in the works to bring the sport of curling to the City of Chelsea during Chocolate Extravaganza in February, 2018.

Plus, she said, the chamber is hard at work putting together the details of this year’s Smoke and Ale Festival planned for Oct. 13-14.
