Petition circulating to encourage Chelsea Council to help fund Chelsea-Ann Arbor Express bus route

Gonzalo Silverio of Ann Arbor is circulating a petition  encouraging the Chelsea City Council to contribute $15,000 to help fund the Chelsea-Ann Arbor Express AATA bus route in its draft city budget.

Two weeks ago, several Chelsea riders spoke to the City Council urging the elected officials to include the money in the city’s 2013-14 draft budget.

The money would help fund the Chelsea-Ann Arbor Express Route.

The petition states, “The undersigned urge the council to appropriate for this expenditure. Without this minimal support from the City Council it is quite likely the route will be cancelled.”

This commuter bus has steadily increased in ridership, according to the petition, and the route has become a necessity for a number of Chelsea families.

“This service has increased the quality of life for many, represents a selling point for the City of Chelsea and is an investment for the future,” the information states.

There are about 25 signatures on the petition.
