Publisher’s message: August is all about the Chelsea Community Fair

I hope you are getting as excited about the 78th Chelsea Community Fair, Aug. 25-29, as I am. And, in addition to all the daily pre-fair coverage, which should answer all of your questions before you head out to the biggest event in the community, I can’t wait to be there to cover all the action in words and photos.

My farm scene for fair.
My farm scene cross stitch framed for fair.

But even better yet … this year, I will be a participant – riding in a convertible representing Chelsea Update as the 2014 Small Business Leadership Award winner in the fair parade.

And I am so excited. So be sure to yell at me when you see me go by. I’m already practicing my parade wave (really) and picking out lots of good candy to toss along the way.

I’ve told everyone who will listen — I will not be one of those people who runs out of candy before I get to Old Manchester Road, the end point. I know what that’s like because that’s where I normally stand to take my parade photos each year.

So, plan ahead with your candy stash, participants. Buy one more bag than you think you’ll need, and no one at the end of the route will be disappointed. Besides, you don’t want to be outdone by me, do you?

This year, for something new and different, I will be entering a large cross stitch piece rather than vegetables. Sorry, no peanuts this year.

I started on it in December and finished it seven months later. And I can’t wait to put it up on one of my walls once fair is over. I hadn’t done any cross stitch in many years and when I came across this farm scene, I thought it perfectly represented everything that the Chelsea Community Fair embodies.

I enjoyed every stitch, every minute, every color that went into it. And, I hope the judges and visitors like it, too.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at fair.

  1. That’s an awesome cross stitch you’ve done. I think you’re in for some stiff competition. I’ve seen some others that are being entered. Those who put so many hours in to their art work can appreciate others hands.
Wish I could have shown an attachment.
Good luck to ALL the fair entries/events.

    • Absolutely, Cecelia. These pieces take a lot of time, but we derive a lot of enjoyment seeing what a whole bunch of “x’s” placed next to each other can create.
